Slated by Teri Terry

Kyla's memory has been erased,

her personality wiped blank,

her memories lost for ever.

She's been Slated.

The government claims she was a terrorist, and that they are giving her a second chance - as long as she plays by their rules. But echoes of the past whisper in Kyla's mind. Someone is lying to her, and nothing is as it seems. Who can she trust in her search for the truth?

I recently got invited to Hachette Children's Young Adult book event and received the third book in this series to review. I was incredibly intrigued and also spoke to another blogger there who said the first two were amazing, so I just had to go and buy the first two in the series. I was not disappointed!

Slated tells the story of Kyla. Her memory has been wiped blank, slated, so she cannot remember anything of her past. At sixteen she has been told that she was a terrorist in her past life and the government are giving her a second chance at life to start afresh. However, Kyla keeps having the same recurring nightmare that just feels so real, was she really a terrorist in her past life, or is she being lied to, who can she trust to find out the truth?

I literally read this in a day. It is one of those unputdownable books and you cannot do or think about anything else until you have finished. I warmed to Kyla instantly, she isn't like the other Slateds (others that have also had their memories wiped), she asks lots of questions and notices things that Slateds shouldn't. I felt like I was learning along with her as she went, all these new things she has to learn again and how to deal with characters that say they are looking out for her when their words have a double meaning.

There is always something happening in Slated to keep you on the edge of your seat and racing onto the next chapter. I haven't read a book like that in ages so this was an extremely welcome read! I had almost forgotten how much I like these types of novels where there is an alternate future, where the government are more in control than ever with people disappearing on a daily basis and freedom of speech is non-existent. There is so much in this that you will not want it to end and the ending itself is ... OMG! I now have to read Fractured, I cannot wait any longer to start it!

If you haven't read a Young Adult book in a while or are looking for a new one to read. Read THIS!!!

4.5/5
