Review

First off, let me show some serious cover appreciation! That cover is stunning! Carina always have such beautiful covers!

I previously read Sarah's debut, The Language of Spells and loved it, so was thrilled when she released her second novel The Secrets of Ghosts. Although this is a stand alone novel to The Language of Spells, we get to revisit some of the same characters and I was delighted to go back to Pendleford with Gwen and Katie.

Katie plays the main role in The Secrets of Ghosts and I really liked her as a character as I was able to relate to her in some ways, but not her ethereal abilities of course! We still get to revisit Gwen's story but The Secrets of Ghosts is written seven years later, so Katie is older and hoping to discover her place among the famous Harper women. But Katie is having problems and feels like she is never going to discover her power.

I always manage to get really into Sarah's stories and this one was just so easy to get swept along in. Also like before, I really like the magic element in this. It is more prominent in this one than The Language of Spells and I enjoyed it for this. And it also has a more paranormal twist to it, which made for some gripping reading!

I loved the romance element in this. It had a sweetness to it, even if Katie was holding back a little, which we begin to understand the further we read. I liked how it wasn't heavy stuff as I think I have read far too much of that recently so this actually felt refreshing.

Sarah's writing and dialogue also made me chuckle as she makes the characters so different from each other. Even though Katie is quite reserved, she does come out with some funny rude things; completely different from Gwen.

A really nice, light read that you can easily pick up and lose yourself in.

4/5
