Love You Better and domestic abuse:
The novel confronts
the issue of domestic abuse head on, yet focuses on the early signs of domestic
abuse. Natalie’s research into the subject highlighted that there are many
early signs that someone may be abusive later down the line – from subtle
control of money (eg. wanting to be the breadwinner in a relationship) to
possessiveness and attempts to isolate someone form their support network.
Effie suffers many of these experiences within the novel and Natalie is happy
to write articles on the topic. In her research for Love You Better, Natalie spoke to many victims of domestic abuse
and researched victim support websites for a full understanding of the issue.
